News & Updates
Monday 10th January 2000
William will be joining us from the Newport Arms on Saturday. There has
been a change to Williams status which should help his team mates considerably.
I was unaware of this hidden (as usual) talent and will make sure his tunes his sails
according to his experience.
Everyone else should aim to be at Rushcutters bay at 5:00-5:30pm. Marc
please aim for about 4:00pm in Sydney, this will insure you and us that you will not be
late. There is extremely limited (possibly no[ne]) parking there, so it may be best not to
plan to driving. Last time I was looking for parking I did find some, all the way up the
top near that round block of units which looks somewhat like Australia Square (has it ever
bother you that Australia Square is round).
What to bring:
A soft bag containing clothing:
3 t-shirts, 1 shorts, 1 jeans, 2 tracksuits, 1 sloppy joe, underwear,
socks, 2 pr (white soled) sandshoes, hat, swimsuit, wet weather gear
Don't forget to bring the Ham and Pinapple Shirt for Saturday night!
sailing gloves (Garden Gloves have been know to work equally well).
East Sail will provide the real wet weather gear, it just can suit if you
also have some.
Also as extras, these are not mandatory, but are extremely useful. Think of the survival
game on the moon. If you had had the aid of this type of equipment you surely would have
died. People who didn't attend this year BDW IT Conf, would not understand this last
statement so please ignore.
Small torch (with a string to wear around you neck at night)
sun glasses & sun glass band to keep them on your head
toiletries & sunblock
towel (big), book (The Lexus and the Olive Tree), games (see below),
CD's (Christian is bringing about 100, so I doubt we will need any more)
You will also need a sleeping bag/blanket and pillow (I rap my clothes
up in a towel to create a pillow)
It is advisable to take some sea sickness prevention on Friday afternoon.
- Ask you chemist to recommend something. It can be best to test for side effects before
the trip.
Note:
As you can see by previous messages, the food and drinks both alcoholic and not are being
provided, all we will do is divide the total by 18 to get a result.
Goings on so far
The red wine has been ordered.
The beer and soft drink has been organised.
The bolognaise source has been made (Sandy this weekend made enough for
21 - she was really happy about that - it is now in the freezer awaiting consumption on
Saturday night)
The badminton/volley ball set has been purchased (by Christian)
The web site is up to date (again thanks to Christian)
Friday 7th January 2000
This is heating up as a great event. To remove the administration please
make sure you wear white soles shoes. Note they will get wet, so it may turn out that you
need 2 pairs. Also we have a Hawaiian night on Saturday night if the weather is good, so
please bring your ham and pineapple shirts.
Due to the generosity of some of our friends the Wine, Beer and soft
drinks will be supplied by BBB, Fountainhead Industries and Practical Connections. Thank
you guys for your support.
The web site is http://welcome.to/bdw.do.ufo's Thanks to Christian for
putting this together.
The crews now as they stand, also we are looking for some better names, so please feel
free to name your boats.
Boat 1 - BG B's
Captain - Richard Verschoor - knowledge a plenty
Brett Greenshields - tries hard
Adam Bailey - good with a beer under his belt, steers well if he has a hat
Daniel - no idea
Greg Matthews (Richards friend) - no idea, and doesn't play cricket
William Shipway - meeting us later at the Newport Arms. Knows the names of at least six
parts of the boat. Just doesn't know which is which. Has sailing on different boats
before, sure to add understated value when needed.
Boat 2 - Fountain Reds (this could be a source)
Captain - Robert Cox (me) - some knowledge
Marc Bailey - is looking for a skipper certificate - this is a little like the MCSE of
sailing
Christian Kraus - no bloody idea, but can float, in a big wind (no pun intended) the
weight differential could be advantageous.
Mark Mitchell - self taught by Robert 2 years ago, actually no bloody idea, but can grind
Ben McMullen - no idea, fast on the grind though
Brett Pound - can read the wind, excellent tactician
Boat 3 - Girlie's
Captain - Denise Connors - experienced
Peter Hawke - lots of experience
Ellie Hancock - Daddy taught her to sail - hope she remembers
Amy Howlett - should be able to grind
Jaqui Colquit - hopefully will build up her muscles
Dympna Baker - no idea.
Thursday 6th January 2000
Please get this form filled out and faxed to East Sail ASAP. Click HERE to download form.
We now have 17 people, again the boat crews have been rearranged to allow
for the new numbers. It is likely that Peter Hawke will find an 18th who can sail, since
the Girly boat needs another grinder.
We will be going with three - 36 foot boats from EastSail and not Richards since the
repairs needed to his boat may not have happened before we set sail.
My next pursuit is food. I will send you the menu this afternoon. I will be looking for
chief photographer and editor for the weekend soon. I am thinking that

We are at 15 people, which will mean 3 boats for now - this will put the
price up by $60, so I would love to see 3 other people if we can.
Still trying to get numbers, have booked the boats through EastSail and all is looking
good at this stage - please let me know if you know of others, preferably those that can
sail, we have enough others for now.
The following are a suggestion I just put together to weigh out the experience with the in
experience and to get Peter married. Let me know what you think. I might not listen, it's
my prerogative.

I have left the no votes on the list, in case you change your mind by
Tuesday, I will be booking the boats on Tuesday, it will then be up to you to pay quite
quickly through East Sail.
I placed you on boats via experience, note I need some very cool names for the boat
groups. So far we have 14, which is 2 boats, we are looking for another 4 to make it 3
boats. It is possible to fit 14, but it will be tight.
This looks like being an excellent weekend, with several activities planned.
The idea is to leave from the CYC (Rushcutters bay) at around 6:00pm on the Friday and
head for Pittwater. We should be there at least an hour before. We will then arrive in
Pittwater for the night, quite late, depending on the wind. We have some fisher people
amongst us, so we need fishing equipment and worms.
Next day we wake up late and go to the Newport Arms for lunch. Then we go sailing all
afternoon, maybe down to the Hawkesbury bridge or maybe not. Then we eat again later in
the evening - maybe some swimming with the sharks.
Sunday a run home after checking out the weather. Home by around 5:00 pm.
As I said before, I will work out the food and divvy up the dollars. I estimate it to come
in at no more than $40 per person. Alcohol is separate - although I understand we might be
getting some sponsorship - Reebok or Nike.

With such a great opening response to my last e-mail and a few verbals. It
appears we have enough starters for this event maybe to fill 3 boats. After checking with
East Sail again on the price it appears they were slightly wrong last time.
If we run with 12 people or 18, we should only pay $305, (up from $260 on
the last quote) for the boat -
Note: the food and beverages are extra, I will send out a list of what to bring so that we
all have a great weekend early next week.
I will be blocking in at 12 and then if we get the numbers 18, this will be incentive to
get you names in. I will be asking for money next week in Update 3 after I have confirmed
numbers again.
Confirmed so far:
1. Peter Hawke
2. Brett Greenshields
3. Adam Bailey
4. Marc Bailey
5. Robert Cox (me)
6. Ben McMullen
7. Christian Kraus
8. Mark Mitchell.
With the rivalry between the Bailey boys, Marc and Adam will be on different boats and
there will be prizes for first to Pittwater etc. more on that later.
As you can see we are inviting women although this will be monitored carefully to sailing
ability and husbands ability to catch food via spear guns. For those of you who didn't get
the first message it is attached below. Please let me know quickly what you are doing I am
going to stop at 18 after that it gets to hard.
Note again: while others are on the boat the cigarettes will not be working. Due to asthma
issues and general holiday feeling.
Friday 3rd December 1999
I am organising a weekend trip which may turn out to be the event of the
real millennium on the weekend of 15/16 January 2000 - leaving Friday night - may be never
coming home.
It is best to get 12 of us. This is 6 on each boat and 1 person from East
Sail. This way we can sleep comfortably, if we go with 7 on each boat, then someone might
be uncomfortable, but it will be cheaper.
The cost will be $260 for per person for boat and person (at the 6 per
boat rate). My guess is food will cost around $50 each and alcohol might come to around
$50 per person.
You are all on the proposed starter list. Although there are a few more - Peter Hawke,
Brett Oldfield who I am not sure their e-mail yet.
There will be a race and prizes and all sorts of other stuff. I will want
to confirm the numbers quickly and lock in the money. If you don't pay me, when I ask you
won't go and there will be no refunds.
Oh and it is a non-smoking weekend due to my health and the healthy
outdoors approach we all have to life.
Let me know if there is anyone else who should be invited and click the
buttons if you are interested
